St Margaret de Westwick Norwich Monuments

Although the carving on the monuments in St Margaret is not remarkable of particular note are the inscriptions.

The verse on Benjamin's stone is particularly poetic :
"How good he was how generous and how kind
For his good nature with good sense was join'd
Careful to please but fearful to offend
A kind a constant and a faithful friend
A fair good name without a grudge
Is all he pleads for GOD WILL JUDGE"

However, Isaac's inscription is a litte more prosaic and reminds the reader:
" A heap of dust alone remains of thee
'Tis all thou art and all the proud shall be"
Whilst surrounding the stone to Charlotte and Thomas is the somewhat chilling message " Life how short..........Eternity how long"
